Catholic Weddings in Positano
Celebrate your Catholic wedding in Positano!
The towering Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta with its unique green and yellow majolica dome is the perfect setting for your Catholic wedding in Positano. The dome can be seen from any part of town. The cathedral’s interiors are carved in white marble and gilded in gold, making it an absolutely superlative Baroque masterpiece. This is a beautifully lit church, bright and joyful, in keeping with the sun filled surroundings and architectural design allowing as much light as possible to filter in. The Cattedrale di Santa Maria Assunta was built on the site of a former Benedictine abbey in the 13th century and then rebuilt in the 1700’s. Precious Byzantine works of art can be found on the main altar with its 13th century painting of the Madonna and Child which is locally known as the Black Virgin. An original mosaic floor is found behind the altar, protected by a glass shield.
