Arezzo is the third largest city in Tuscany, with an old town that is quite small and closed to automobile traffic making it perfect for leisurely explorations on foot. The city's origins date back to Etruscan times but its present architecture and design originate with the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. The highlight of the town is the amazing Basilica of San Francesco with striking frescoes by Piero della Francesca painted during the 15th century. The Basilica was recently restored after a 15 year long project and the interiors are quite dazzling. Every first Sunday of the month the main piazza holds a charming antiques fair and twice a year, in September and June there is a stunning Medieval pageant called the Joust of the Saracen or "Giostra del Saracino". The pageant is carried out in full medieval costumes by locals.
Antiques and gold are two of Arezzo's claims to fame. The town is considered one of the world's jewelry design capitals making window shopping quite an eye popping experience! It is possible to purchase your wedding rings at one of the many jewelry boutiques in the heart of the town.
Civil weddings in Arezzo are celebrated in the imposing palace on the Piazza della Liberta'. There are several medieval halls avaialble depending on the size of your wedding party.
