As evening fell, Villa Erba's frescoed ballroom came alive beneath cascading Murano glass chandeliers, their candlelight playing off centuries of intricate baroque detail on walls and ceiling alike. Along the banquet tables, the floral design was deliberately, beautifully understated — soft clouds of white baby's breath and garden roses running the full length of the room, punctuated by clusters of slender taper candles. The effect was dreamlike: all that whispered white against the richness of gold, teal and fresco above, the parquet floor glowing beneath it all.
